Basic Handgun Safety & MD HQL Courses - 9a to 2p

Basic Handgun Safety & Maryland HQL Course Instruction provided by Maryland Qualified Handgun Instructors – Certified (QHIC) at our partner facility in New Freedom, PA.

All materials and equipment provided. No prior experience required.

This comprehensive 4+ hour course establishes a strong foundation in responsible firearm ownership and safe pistol handling. Designed for both Maryland and Pennsylvania residents, the curriculum satisfies all Maryland Handgun Qualification License (HQL) training requirements while delivering substantially more depth than state minimums.

Course Topics Include:

• Firearm safety principles and safety mindset
• Range rules, etiquette, and best practices
• Firearm selection based on purpose and intended use
• Loading, clearing, and equipment fundamentals
• Mechanics of fire and correction of common errors
• Firearm care and maintenance
• Basic trauma care and situational awareness
• Use-of-force law and alternatives to lethal force
• Live fire exercises with an emphasis on developing muscle memory

Pennsylvania residents will receive a dedicated section covering Pennsylvania firearms law.

Important Notes

• Course material is sourced from the USCCA Concealed Carry & Home Defense Fundamentals curriculum
• This course does not satisfy training requirements for a Maryland Wear & Carry Permit
• A Basic Handgun Safety Training Certificate is issued upon successful completion and may satisfy concealed carry training requirements in select states — consult your instructor with any questions
• Certification is valid for 3 years from the date of completion for the Maryland HQL
• All students are required to execute a waiver and hold harmless agreement prior to instruction
• SAFE Firearms Training, LLC maintains liability insurance coverage for all class activities
• Not included: Maryland LiveScan fingerprinting and Maryland State Police application fee
• Registrations are non-refundable; cancellations will receive a class credit valid for 6 months from the original class date
